Torquay Sands

WBCM Pty Ltd were engaged by the MHY Handbury Joint Venture Pty Ltd to provide consulting engineering design and construction phase services on a proposed mixed use development at Torquay.  

The proposed development contains 400 residential allotments, 200 medium density housing units, a 100-room residential hotel, combined with an 18-hole championship golf course and clubhouse and a cascade of amenity lakes generally aligned east-west along the drainage line traversing the property.

The lakes provide a focus for the resort village and residential areas, as well as playing integral roles in harnessing of surface water for reuse as golf course irrigation water.This development converted 124 ha of swampy land into a successful multi-use development which will become a focal point of the north Torquay area.

The creation of the residential roads and allotments required the placement of large volumes of fill from excavated material removed from the lakes system and the development was an integral part of solving a number of drainage and sewerage problems, which were existing in the Torquay north catchment prior to the development being completed.
